Objective:
Identification of natural compounds, generally recognized as safe and generally inexpensive, that reduce or eradicate parasitic invertebrates, particularly snails, in catfish ponds with limited toxicity to fish and phytoplankton.
Approach:
ARS will provide organisms for small scale screening of invertebrates, and organisms and facilities for toxicity testing. Cooperator will utilize existing bank of natural compounds to perform initial screening, and provide candidate compounds for toxicity testing of fish and phytoplankton in tanks and experimental ponds.
