Research Project: Deoxynivalenol in Wheat and Inhibition of F. graminearum by Compounds in Wheat Bran

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-027-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jun 1, 2020
End Date: May 31, 2024

Objective:
The objectives of this research are to: 1) provide analytical services to breeders in order to develop new cultivars of wheat and barley with reduced potential for DON accumulation and 2) identify compounds in wheat prohibiting the growth of Fusarium graminearum.

Approach:
The researcher will conduct DON analysis on submitted grain samples and report findings to cooperators for disitrubtion to growers and use in breeding programs. Additionally, the researcher will conduct experiments to identify compounds associated with reduced fungal infection for the use of additional control measures in both the field and food processing industries.
