Research Project: A Novel Approach for Determining the Effectiveness of Conservation Practices in Reducing Nitrate Losses

Location: Soil and Water Management Research

Project Number: 5062-12130-008-030-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 15, 2021
End Date: Jul 31, 2023

Objective:
Develop new technologies to map the impact of management practices on nitrate export to streams and ditches.

Approach:
Cooperator will use ArcGIS tools to map spatial nitrate concentration data collected during transects of small agricultural watersheds. The resulting maps will be used to assess which edge of field practices are most and least effective in reducing nitrate contamination, and also to test the ability of models to predict nitrate loss.
