Objective:
1. Develop and characterize cucumber core population (390 lines)
2. Molecular mapping of downy mildew (DM) resistances in cucumber
3. Marker-assisted pyramiding of DM resistance QTL and evaluation of enhanced germplasm with multiple disease resistances.
Approach:
Objective 1:
1) Re-sequence 284 cucumber lines.
2) Phenotype for target traits in this collection for downy mildew resistance.
3) Conduct association analysis.
Objective 2:
1) Fine mapping of major-effect QTLs.
2) QTL mapping of DM resistance in PT108 from exotic source.
3) Marker-assisted QTL pyramiding into elite pickling cucumber background
