Research Project: Fusarium Mycotoxins Management in Sprouted Cereal Grains

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-131-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
Objective 1: Screening natural photosensitizers (PSs), design and characterize the natural PS loaded delivery system. Objective 2: Antifungal and mycotoxin inhibitory activity of PS loaded delivery system in vitro. Objective 3: Application of Antifungal and mycotoxin inhibitory efficacy of PS in cereal grains and sprouted grains.

Approach:
A range of natural photosensitizers (PSs) delivery systems with well-defined physicochemical characteristics will be prepared. Antifungal effectiveness of PS-loaded delivery system will be tested using two chemotypes of Fusarium graminearum isolates. A number of selected PS loaded delivery systems with enhanced mycotoxin inhibitory in vitro will be applied in sprouted grains.
