Research Project: Fusarium Head Blight Management and Risk Assessment

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-132-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
Evaluate and compare the efficacy, rainfastness, and economic benefit of fungicide programs for Fusarium head blight (FHB) and mycotoxin control on wheat cultivars with different levels of resistance to FHB and expand the data matrix used for modeling FHB with cases representing new environments to improve predictive performance.

Approach:
Field plots will be established using cultivars with different levels of FHB resistance; subjected to fungicide treatments, with/without overhead irrigation and with/without inoculation; and FHB intensity and mycotoxin grain contamination data will be collected. FHB severity data from untreated, nonirrigated, and non-inoculated plots will be used for FHB model validation.
