Research Project: Novel, non-transgenic, hybrid citrus varieties with resistance to huanglongbing: evaluation and cultivar development

Location: Subtropical Plant Pathology Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-045-006-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2020
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
Rapid screening the advanced hybrids for resistance to CLas under greenhouse conditions to facilitate selection of hybrids with broad spectrum of resistance against multiple CLas isolates.

Approach:
By participating in the concerted, parallel and coordinated efforts towards developing new HLB resistant/tolerant scion cultivars, ARS will propagate the advanced hybrids on common rootstock, sour orange and/or US 942, and then evaluate their resistance/tolerance against at least two distinct CLas isolates using graft-based assay. The disease index and CLas titers will be determined via qPCR and other measurements.
