Research Project: Evaluation of an Innovative Mobile Phosphorus Removal Systems for Vermont CEAP and Priority HABs-affected Watersheds

Location: Pasture Systems & Watershed Management Research

Project Number: 8070-13000-015-014-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 15, 2021
End Date: Aug 30, 2024

Objective:
1. Conduct a performance analysis of the simplified MAnure PHosphorus EXtraction (MAPHEX) system compared to a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system already implemented on farms in Vermont. 2. Perform modeling to demonstrate the impact on phosphorus levels in streams over long (20 – 30 year) time scales.

Approach:
The Cooperator will collect samples and assist with performance analysis of the simplified MAPHEX system compared to a DAF system already implemented on farms in Vermont. ARS will work with the cooperator to perform modeling to demonstrate the impact on phosphorus levels in streams over long (20 – 30 year) time scales.
