Research Project: Support Research Collaboration Efforts Between USDA/ARS and International Scientists Working on Priority Research Projects of Mutual Interest

Location: Research Programs

Project Number: 3022-32000-018-022-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2021
End Date: Jul 31, 2026

Objective:
The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will direct technical cooperation through actions aimed at four strategic objectives: To increase the contributions of the agriculture sector to economic growth and sustainable development; to contribute to the well-being of all rural dwellers; to improve international and regional trade for countries in the region; to increase the resilience of rural areas and agri-food systems to extreme events.

Approach:
The Cooperative Program in Research and Technology for the Northern Region (PROCINORTE), under the umbrella of IICA, is a trilateral network of federal agricultural, agri-food and food system research bodies in Canada, Mexico, and the USA. IICA proposes to support USDA/ARS with implementation, administration and support for international research collaborations and scientific training for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) to further collaborations among a community of scientists and experts researching animal diseases that are endemic in the Americas.
