Research Project: Improving Water Use Efficiency and Grain Yield of Furrow-Irrigated Rice

Location: Delta Water Management Research

Project Number: 6024-13000-004-021-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 2, 2021
End Date: Aug 1, 2026

Objective:
1. Quantify grain yield of various rice cultivars managed under conventional and furrow-irrigated conditions. 2. Compare irrigation water use efficiencies of rice produced using conventional and furrow-irrigation. 3.Quantify greenhouse gas emissions at the field scale.

Approach:
We will conduct replicated field experiments managed under different irrigation water management practice and quantify grain yield and water use efficiency. Grain samples and irrigation water applied will be collected for analyses of yield and water use efficiency. Deploy an eddy covariance tower with associated sensors to measure fluxes of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.
