Objective:
Objective 1 - Determine livestock responses to adaptive grazing management in High Plains rangelands to enhance outcome-focused strategies for livestock operations in a changing climate.
Approach:
The Cooperator and ARS will collaborate in determining livestock responses (e.g., performance, production, diet selection, health, nutrition, etc.) to adaptive grazing management in High Plains rangelands. These efforts will utilize long-term data from this Long-Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) network-affiliated site, as well as new field-based experiments addressing contemporary issues of diverse invasive and poisonous plants, precision livestock and rangeland conservation and management, and targeted grazing for provision of multiple ecosystem services in a changing climate. Faculty and graduate students with the Cooperator will examine animal science-related aspects (performance, diets, nutrition, health) of adaptive grazing management in collaboration with faculty and students from other departments in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
