Objective:
The overall objective of the agreement is to monitor potential incursion of Ug99 and other virulent stem rust races, and exotic strains of cereal rusts into the United States through sentinel plots.

Approach:
1) Establish and maintain rust sentinel plots of wheat, barley, oat, and rye lines in Lower Rio Grande Valley and Coastal Bent areas in southern Texas; 2) observe and report rust development; 3) collect rust samples for race-typing at the Cereal Disease laboratory.
