Research Project: Collaborative Critical Zone Experimentation

Location: Northwest Watershed Research Center

Project Number: 2052-13610-015-004-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2021
End Date: Oct 1, 2025

Objective:
1. Establish and maintain experimental monitoring network of soil gas and microbiology, sapflux, stream water quality/chemistry and ground water within Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed and Critical Zone Observatory. 2. Establish documentation for experimental plans, site characteristics, protocols/instruments used, and data management/archival for all Critical Zone Experimentation in Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed.

Approach:
1. Cooperator will establish stream water quality/chemistry instruments in existing stream gaging structures operated by ARS. ARS will routinely service the stream gauging sites as part of routine watershed operations. 2. Cooperator will establish routine collection and testing of ground water pump samples from stratified well fields in Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed. 3. Cooperator will coordinate all field activities through ARS Watershed Manager. ARS will provide day-to-day operational support for transportation and safety needs. 4. Cooperator will document all field experimentation using format outlined by ARS. ARS will provide standard documentation template to be followed. 5. Cooperator will coordinate with ARS Database Manager regarding data management of all Critical Zone data collected in Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed. ARS will manage and archive all data collected in Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed.
