Research Project: Utilizing the Iowa State University Animal Care and Use Committee

Location: Agroecosystems Management Research

Project Number: 5030-31000-007-008-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2021
End Date: May 31, 2026

Objective:
To utilize the Iowa State University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (ISU IACUC)to ensure compliance with applicable ARS policies (ARS P&P 130.4.v.2), the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) Regulations, Public Health Service (PHS) Policy, the NRC "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals," and the FASS "Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching" (FASS Ag Guide).

Approach:
USDA animal scientists conduct research on food-producing animals using Cooperator's facilities, research farms, and personnel. In order to avoid ambiguity, duplication of research proposal reviews, and recordkeeping, both the ARS and Cooperator wish to operate under a single set of rules/guidelines that all employees (ARS and Cooperator) working on Cooperator's research farms or in either Cooperator's or ARS' facilities will adhere to.
