Research Project: Using Diversity Outbred Mice to Model Heterogenous Diet Responses

Location: Obesity and Metabolism Research

Project Number: 2032-10700-003-009-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2021
End Date: Oct 30, 2025

Objective:
The objective of this Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement (NACA) is to facilitate the mechanistic research of genetics and dietary interactions using model organisms, initially mice, at the Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC), located on the campus of the University of California Davis (UC Davis). The proposed research focus is metabolic individuality in response to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the relationship between an individual’s response and disease prevention.

Approach:
UC Davis will support mechanistic studies conducted in the WHNRC by employing full and part time technical and medical personnel required to accomplish the proposed research. These include, but are not limited to, an Assistant Project Scientist(s), and/or an equivalent candidate(s) to provide project management and advanced statistical data analysis and metabolomics analysis. Additionally, funds will be used to house and feed custom diets to mice at vivarium managed by UC Davis and staffed by UC Davis employees, as these facilities are not available at the WHNRC. The collaborating technical and scientific staff will provide a variety of support including: genetic analysis, project management, analytical chemistry, and statistical data analysis.
