Research Project: Influence of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Rhizobium on Soil Health and Plant Growth

Location: Agricultural Systems Research

Project Number: 3032-21600-001-001-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2021
End Date: Sep 29, 2024

Objective:
To assess the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and rhizobium inoculation on soil biological health, plant growth and quality.

Approach:
Treatments will include: 1. non-inoculated or control, 2. single inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), 3. single inoculation of rhizobium, and 4. combined inoculation of AMF and rhizobium. Four replicates of each treatment will be arranged in a randomized complete block design. Dry pea and lentil will be grown. Soil samples for soil chemical and microbiological properties will be collected in spring and fall. Plant analysis will be conducted each year.
