Location: Cotton Ginning Research
Project Number: 3050-41000-010-071-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jun 1, 2022
End Date: May 31, 2026
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to develop science, engineering, and technology-based education and outreach materials and carry out programs based on these materials for K-12 students, teachers, and the general public in the southwestern U.S. and Mexico Border region. Materials and programs are based on ARS research and promote diversity/equity/inclusion by providing information on ARS science products and related future opportunities to students and the public in a predominantly Hispanic region.
Approach:
The Research Units based at the Las Cruces location have worked closely with the Asombro Institute for Science Education since 1997 to develop science-based outreach materials and programs. This agreement will support implementation of new cooperatively developed outreach and programs. This project will train students/next generation public and private land managers in science principles of engineering systems and equipment, product quality and utilization principles, and sustainable agricultural systems, especially soil, air, and climate. Outreach based on ARS science facilitates the broad use of science information and the interest of next generation scientists in ARS internships and careers. The PI will spend 5% FTE on this project.
