Research Project: Accelerating the Transition to Climate-Smart Strategies by Bolstering the Extension to Midwest Climate Hub Connection

Location: Soil, Water & Air Resources Research

Project Number: 5030-21600-001-005-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2022
End Date: Dec 31, 2024

Objective:
The overall goal is to increase adoption of climate-informed best management practices in agriculture through a strengthened USDA Midwest Climate Hub - Extension partnership.

Approach:
The Midwest Climate Hub will cooperate with a set of states to develop the framework of a regional connection to extension through the USDA Climate Hub and Cooperator's Climate Hub Liaison. Literature and practices will be reviewed for the most climate resilient practices for three agricultural systems: corn/soybean, integrated livestock, and specialty crop operations. Working with extension collaborators, ARS and the Cooperator will create suites of practices to address climate adaptation for the various systems to be shared with stakeholders to encourage adoption of more resilient practices. In addition, ARS and the Cooperator will work with collaborators(evaluators) to develop implementation of practices and measure success of implementation.
