Research Project: Use of Traditional and Genomic Plant Breeding to Improve Fusarium Head Blight Resistance Soft Winter Wheat

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-149-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
Our objective is to provide new cultivars that serve the soft wheat industry. This requires combining Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) resistance with yield, quality, and other traits. We aim to release two new cultivars and to disseminate information on FHB resistance to the wheat industry.

Approach:
OSU will assess the yield and FHB resistance of > 1000 lines per year via observation and predictions. We will use genomic selection in a coordinated effort across programs to leverage resources. The resistance of commercial lines will be assessed.
