Objective:
This research program will a. help farmers make scab management decisions by evaluating and disseminating data on varietal resistance, and b. develop scab-resistant wheat varieties that are profitable for farmers to grow in Illinois and surrounding states.
Approach:
To help farmers manage scab, we will conduct scab resistance variety testing. To develop scab-resistant varieties, we will improve scab resistance and total net merit within the University of Illinois wheat breeding program using a breeding strategy incorporating rapid generation advancement, genomic prediction, and economic selection indices.
