Research Project: Genome-Wide Association Analysis of Economically Important Traits in Rainbow Trout

Location: Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture Research

Project Number: 8082-31000-013-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2022
End Date: Jul 31, 2024

Objective:
This agreement will conduct quantitative genetics analyses and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for commercially important traits in rainbow trout aquaculture. It will include research such as bacterial cold water disease (BCWD) and evaluate new approaches to refine the analysis algorithm.

Approach:
Large datasets of pedigrees, phenotypes and genotypes are available for this project from the USDA-ARS-NCCCWA selective breeding program population and from commercial partners who are working closely with the NCCCWA. The cooperator will conduct quantitative genetic analyses and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to map the genetic architecture of bacterial cold water disease resistance in a commercial aquaculture breeding population of rainbow trout. The cooperator will also use the large datasets available at the NCCCWA to evaluate approaches that can be used to refine algorithm or other aspects of the models used for genome-wide association analyses in rainbow trout.
