Research Project: Development and Evaluation of Improved Peanut Cultivars

Location: National Peanut Research Laboratory

Project Number: 6044-21000-006-003-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 20, 2022
End Date: Jun 19, 2027

Objective:
To evaluate peanut germplasm and breeding lines to develop cultivars with improved agronomic traits to enhance peanut production and efficiency.

Approach:
Existing peanut germplasm, breeding lines, and cultivars will be planted for evaluation on experiment stations and research farms in Alabama and Georgia. Evaluations will be made to select for improved agronomic characteristics including pest resistance, water use efficiency, and acceptable post-harvest characteristics. Also, crosses will be made to continually provide new breeding lines for evaluation. All resulting commercial peanut cultivars will be offered as joint releases between USDA/ARS and Auburn University.
