Research Project: Transmission Dynamics of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus

Location: Zoonotic and Emerging Disease Research

Project Number: 3022-32000-021-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
The overall objective of this agreement is to increase the knowledge on the epidemiology, ecology, and pathogenesis of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever virus.

Approach:
1- Identifying alternative tick vectors and evaluating their vector competence compared to Hyalomma ticks. 2- Identifying viral elements mediating pathogenesis and persistence in the reservoir. NGS sequencing will be used to obtain comprehensive genomic data from virus isolates. RNA seq and proteomics will be performed on vertebrate and tick cells infected with CCHFV, in order to compare the expression profiles and identify potential pathogenesis and maintenance pathways.
