Research Project: Texas Water Observatory Monitoring at the Riesel Watersheds

Location: Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory

Project Number: 3098-21600-001-070-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 15, 2022
End Date: Jul 14, 2025

Objective:
The objective of this work is to continue monitoring carbon and water cycles for the Texas Gulf Coast Long-Term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) Network.

Approach:
Eddy covariance and phenocams will be used to monitor carbon and water fluxes in three fields at the Riesel Watersheds that are a part of the LTAR common cropland experiment: 1) business as usual; 2) aspirational; and 3) remnant native prairie. A01) Expanded SOW: At Riesel there are three eddy covariance towers that collect data on gas and energy fluxes. The data processing is very intensive and we do not have the expertise within GSWRL to process the data. This agreement is structured to have the Texas Water Observatory include these three eddy covariance towers into a network of similar towers they monitor for which they process the data. This agreement allows that monitoring to continue and extending the date ensures the towers are monitored to at least the end date of this extension.
