Research Project: Assessing and Quantifying the Impacts of Conservation Implementation on Surface and Subsurface Water Quality

Location: Soil Drainage Research

Project Number: 5080-13210-003-031-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jul 29, 2022
End Date: Jul 29, 2027

Objective:
Assess and quantify plot and field scale water quality impacts of conservation practice implementation.

Approach:
A replicated plot design will be used to assess the effects of conservation practice implementation at the plot scale. Twelve plots will be divided into four distinct treatments and tile drainage discharge and water quality will be measured. Between ten and twelve paired edge-of-field sites and a before after control impact (BACI) design will be used to assess the field scale impact of conservation practice implementation on surface and subsurface discharge and water quality. We will collect baseline data from both fields for one crop rotation and then implement the conservation practice in one field and collect data for a second crop rotation.
