Research Project: Facilitated Expert Gap Analysis and Review of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP)

Location: Ruminant Diseases and Immunology Research

Project Number: 5030-32000-236-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
Implement and support research in mycoplasma species, Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony (MmmSC) and M. bovis. through gap analyses, research reviews, research collaborations, scientific trainings and conferences and/or meeting facilitation through innovative approaches developed by cooperator and ARS to build collaborations among a community of scientists, and contribute to create roadmaps to achieve improved disease control tools and strategies.

Approach:
ARS is mandated to research mycoplasma species of importance to cattle including Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony (MmmSC) and M. bovis. In order to achieve its mission, ARS conducts research directly on these diseases but also supports scientific collaborations and research exchanges between U.S. scientists and experts to maximize its impact. An in-person conference will be convened to collect information on research needs related to contagious bovine pleuropneumonia CBPP) and the associated ARS in-house objectives. Results from the conference will be used to generate a scientific gap analysis focused on CBPP.
