Research Project: Supporting Climate Literacy for United States Forest Service (USFS)

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Water Systems Research

Project Number: 2032-12610-002-028-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Jul 31, 2024

Objective:
Forest ecosystems are rapidly changing in part due to severe climate-related disturbances. In an effort to address the growing challenges that climate change poses to forest ecosystems, there has been an explosion in information, resources, and decision support tools intended to help resource managers make climate-informed management decisions. However, the sheer volume of these new resources and tools is difficult to navigate. The objective of this project is to help resource managers more effectively navigate potential resources and make more effective climate-informed decisions.

Approach:
The Cooperator will work with the Climate Hub to develop and execute approaches that support forest resource managers in identifying resources and decision support tools that are suited to their management needs and enhance climate-informed decision making. Additionally, the Cooperator will work with the Hub to design and carry out approaches that ensure managers understand the applicability of various resources and tools for specific management applications, particularly as related to forest ecosystems' climate-mediated challenges.
