Location: Oklahoma and Central Plains Agricultural Research Center
Project Number: 3070-12610-001-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 20, 2022
End Date: Oct 19, 2025
Objective:
To implement the NRCS 'Climate Conversations' program in Oklahoma. This program, that seeks to determine climate-related needs and concerns of Oklahoma NRCS field staff, has been successfully implemented in Utah and North Dakota. The Southern Plains Climate Hub and the cooperator will leverage materials and feedback from those two states to implement a similar initiative in Oklahoma.
Approach:
The cooperator will conduct 5 regional surveys at the November 2022 Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD) area meetings to help: a) determine staff training needs in the area of climate science; and b) inform partners about the climate adaptation and mitigation potential of conservation programs. The cooperator will design the instrument and implement the survey and will then analyze the data. Survey findings will be used to structure more in-depth conversations on climate change and conservation programs at the OACD annual meeting in February. The cooperator will synthesize the survey and in-depth conversation findings in a report for USDA and a potential Extension publication or peer-reviewed communication.
