Research Project: African Lungfish CTxA: A Toxin That Supports Terrestrialization And Barrier Protection

Location: Biological Control of Pests Research

Project Number: 6066-22320-010-009-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Jul 31, 2025

Objective:
1. Determine the toxicity of African lungfish CTxA toxin against invasive ants, including red imported fire ants and tawny crazy ants. 2. Determine the synergism of CTxA with ant bait toxins.

Approach:
The overall approach is to establish LD50 and LC50 of CTxA against fire ants and tawny crazy ants using well established bioassay protocols. Two synthetic insecticides that are commonly used as ant bait active ingredients (A.I.) will be selected for the bioassays on the synergism between the selected AI with CTxA.
