Research Project: Evaluating New Technology and Grapevine Genotypes to Improve Vineyard Water Use Sustainability

Location: Crops Pathology and Genetics Research

Project Number: 2032-21220-008-060-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
1. Evaluate technology to measure vineyard and vine evapotranspiration (ET) and stress estimated with ground-based and remotely sensed data. 2. Evaluate drought stress physiological responses of grapevine genotypes to facilitate screening efforts of germplasm material.

Approach:
Utilize new technology for evaluating grapevine water use and stress. These sensors will be incorporated into ongoing experiments in commercial vineyards and orchards as well as a phenotyping platform established in greenhouses. facilities. Evaluate genotype resonses to drought stress using a novel load-cell based phenotyping platform.
