Research Project: Technology Development for Sustainable Land Management, Monitoring and Research

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 3050-21600-001-111-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2023
End Date: Mar 31, 2027

Objective:
Collaboratively design and develop open source technologies to enhance access to landscape information to inform and support BLM and other assessment and monitoring processes, and to develop data collection tools that are accessible to and usable by a broad range of stakeholders and cooperators.

Approach:
The requirements for the mobile and web applications are being defined through a collaborative, participatory (co-production) process involving the Bureau of Land Management, ARS, and an ARS technology cooperator. All organizations will, as necessary and appropriate, also directly consult with future users of the applications. ARS scientists and technicians are working together with the cooperator to initiate design and development of the technologies, and integration with new and existing ARS tools, including the Landscape Data Commons and EDIT, among others. The 2023 funding will be focused on completion of a soil and ecological site identification mobile application.
