Objective:
The cooperator will hire a fellow to serve as the pacific coordinator to advance climate-informed agriculture and forestry through research, science synthesis, decision-support tool development and/or convening scientists and stakeholders to advance weather and climate resilience.
Approach:
1. Cooperator will develop agro-ecological or socio-economic assessments, syntheses, or tools that inform and scale management planning and climate-smart decision-making.
2. Deliver information on weather and climate-related stressors and effects to stakeholders, ensuring the information is science-based, data-driven, and customer-focused.
3. Expand tools or technologies that support land managers in building climate-resilient landscapes.
4. Build and test prototype decision-support tools to highlight and share geospatially-referenced examples of water adaptation efforts at the farm, irrigation district, and watershed scale.
5. Building climate literacy across the USDA, advisors and practitioners with a focus “environmental justice and equity issues”.
6. Facilitate Assessments and Knowledge Exchange on Mitigation Technologies or Practices including “Development and support of peer-to-peer learning networks”.
