Research Project: Automation Technology for use in Strawberry Production Systems Toward Improving Production Practices and Control of Pests and Diseases

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-22000-019-043-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2023
End Date: Sep 30, 2024

Objective:
Evaluation of automation technology for improving the efficiency of management of pests, diseases, weeds, and other production practices for strawberry.

Approach:
Automation technology will be evaluated for improving the efficiency of management of pests, diseases, weeds, and other production practices for strawberry. The research will evaluate the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), global positioning systems (GPS), robotics, and other technologies, as necessary. The technologies may be coupled with automated data collection, imaging systems or other devices that facilitate pesticide applications or harvesting. Commercially available systems will be adapted, or new systems will be devised in-house. Each of the experimental technologies will be evaluated to assess increased the profitability of strawberry production.
