Location: Tropical Plant Genetic Resources and Disease Research
Project Number: 2040-21000-018-015-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jan 16, 2023
End Date: Jun 30, 2024
Objective:
The objectives of the project are to provide Rapid Ohia Death (ROD) testing capacity, collect lab, greenhouse and field data, isolate ROD fungi from high priority areas, and provide information and cultures to collaborators.
Approach:
Samples will be collected by cooperators and tested for the presence of the ROD pathogens by qPCR and/or carrot baiting. Results will be added to the ROD database. Laboratory, greenhouse and/or field environments will be utilized to evaluate and characterize disease responses. Fungi will be identified using a combination of methods including light microscopy and qPCR. Fungal isolates from high priority areas will be collected, stored at the ARS culture collection in Hilo, HI, and provided to cooperators for genetic studies.
