Research Project: Precision Nitrogen Mapping Proof of Concept

Location: Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center

Project Number: 2074-21600-001-004-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 15, 2023
End Date: Feb 14, 2028

Objective:
Test and demonstrate the use of protein mapping for producing nitrogen application maps with high fertilizer use efficiency and high yields.

Approach:
The cooperator will equip two combines with protein mapping devices and use them during harvest. ARS will use the data to produce nitrogen application maps, which the cooperator will use to fertilize the next crop. Maps of the resulting harvest will be used to monitor the efficiency of the system.
