Research Project: University of Minnesota Extension Climate for Tribal and Under - Resourced Farmers

Location: Soil, Water & Air Resources Research

Project Number: 5030-21600-001-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
Establish ongoing relationships with under-resourced producers and various tribal communities and other diverse populations, the goal is to develop climate information specifically for these diverse populations.

Approach:
The project will establish a Cooperator liaison position who will work with the ARS Midwest Climate Hub (MCH). The Cooperator will help initiate relationships and help develop programming around climate, agriculture and water in the Minnesota and the larger MCH region. The liaison will meet regularly with the MCH staff and join MCH staff meetings to discuss current ongoing projects and climate adaptation/mitigation efforts to plan and develop extension-climate hub efforts between the entities. The effort requires a sustained engagement with various tribal communities and other diverse populations to develop working relationships, trust, and understand needs. The Midwest Climate Hub and Cooperator will share engagement and development opportunities to create weather and climate information appropriate for the various stakeholder groups and share regionally as appropriate.
