Research Project: Integrated Management of Insect Pests of Southern Row Crops

Location: Southern Insect Management Research

Project Number: 6066-22000-090-015-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2028

Objective:
Examine non-chemical management tactics that may be used in conjunction with insecticidal controls for important insect pests of southern row crops. Use these tactics to develop integrated approaches which may enable more economical insect management, reduce selection pressure on chemical controls, and reduce environmental impacts.

Approach:
Factors that are known to impact insect population dynamics including trap cropping, landscape management, cultural control, planting date, and biological controls will be examined in open field, field cages, or the laboratory. An emphasis will be placed on control of insect pests on sweet potato.
