Location: Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research
Project Number: 3012-21000-017-022-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Aug 1, 2024
End Date: Jul 31, 2029
Objective:
The objective of this research is to determine the effects of cryopreservation and longterm liquid nitrogen vapor (LNV) storage on the vigor of strawberry plants, compared to those that are maintained in field, greenhouse, or in vitro conditions.
Approach:
This Agreement deals specifically with research to promote the use and application of cryopreservation for the conservation of clonally propagated crops, specifically strawberries. Under this Agreement the UF-delegated entities will optimize cryopreservation procedures and then cryopreserve strawberry shoot tips and send them to the National Laboratory for Genetic Resources Preservation (NLGRP) for research to promote ex situ conservation. The Material will be stored in LNV at NLGRP for the agreed-upon interval, warmed, recovered to assess viability, and then shipped to UF for research to assess plant vigor. These materials will benefit the mission and goals of both parties.
