Research Project: Communications Best Practices for High-containment Laboratories

Location: Research Programs

Project Number: 3022-32000-018-027-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2023
End Date: Jul 31, 2025

Objective:
The objective of this project is to publish research-based best practices using experience/case studies from other high-containment laboratories regarding outreach and community/public engagement. Lessons learned will improve communications and published works will be used to improve communications across all high-containment laboratories across the world. Published works also give the Collaborator the opportunity to apply and advance theory to solve real-world problems, increase their school’s footprint in the science communication arena, and work directly with the community in a collaborative effort to meet communications needs.

Approach:
There is very little research and very few published works about the importance of outreach and community/public engagement for high-containment laboratories. The ARS's Communications team is implementing best practices based on experience and lessons learned from other facilities, but it's integral as more facilities are built and stand up all over the world to be able to share this experience.
