Research Project: Enhancing Climate Literacy, Adaptation, and Mitigation among Working-land Managers and Partners in the Northern Plains

Location: Rangeland Resources & Systems Research

Project Number: 3012-12610-001-004-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2023
End Date: Dec 31, 2027

Objective:
Provide working-land managers and their network of trusted partners with information and decision tools needed to reduce the vulnerability of farms, ranches, and forested lands in a changing climate.

Approach:
The Cooperator and ARS will collaborate in providing farmers, ranchers, forested-land managers, and their service providers (hereafter referred collectively as “stakeholders”) with information, decision tools, and learning experiences to increase climate literacy and reduce vulnerability to a changing climate. Efforts will involve coordinating the development and accessibility of active learning resources and experiences, as well as social networks that enhance the capacity of stakeholders to understand, adapt to, or mitigate weather-related risks and climate change. Professional staff with the Cooperator will lead coordination of the USDA Northern Plains Climate Hub and associated collaborative Extension/outreach efforts addressing these objectives within a six-state region (Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska).
