Objective:
The National Bio and Agro-Defense Facilitity (NBAF) has a robust research program on animal and public health. Veterinary pathology is an intrinsically necessary discipline within each of the research projects at NBAF. There are just over 1900 active registered board-certified veterinary pathologists across 27 countries. Critical shortages of pathologists can result in significant delays in research. This agreement supports the training of veterinary pathologists to address critical gaps in the workforce.
The main objective of this agreement is to train at least two veterinarians with interest in pathology and research through the KSU-CVM pathology residency program. These residents will be enrolled in a residency - and in some cases also in a parallel PhD - program and will participate in NBAF-related research projects as part of their pathology graduate training.
Approach:
Kansas State's College of Veterinary Medicine has a robust residency program for veterinary pathologists. NBAF scientists are working closely with KSU's faculty on cutting edge science to address risks to agriculture and our national public health. This effort will support the training or residency program of two pathologists. The work will be performed on jointly supported projects between KSU and NBAF with the ultimate goal of enhancing the workforce at NBAF.
