Research Project: Impact of Residue Biochemical Quality on Soil Disinfestation

Location: Citrus and Other Subtropical Products Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-046-018-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2028

Objective:
The objective of the proposed research is to determine the composition of cover crops that are suitable candidates for use as carbon sources for anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD).

Approach:
Cooperative greenhouse and laboratory trials will be conducted to determine if the carbon:nitrogen ratio, labile carbon fraction, and percent lignification of potential ASD carbon source cover crops influences the level of anaerobicity achieved and pathogen suppression.
