Research Project: Development and Evaluation of Nipah Virus Diagnostic Assay

Location: Biologics Development Module

Project Number: 3022-32000-026-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
Advance the development of veterinary vaccine countermeasures to prevent, control, and respond to Henipaviral incursions. Henipaviruses are zoonotic viruses that cause fatal disease in animals and humans. Effective diagnostics are needed for the prevention and management of human and animal outbreaks. Testing of this diagnostic assay is critical to development and improvement of effective diagnostics.

Approach:
Task 1. Cooperator designs constructs and expresses Nipah virus proteins in multiple expression systems. Task 2. Cooperator formulates expressed proteins in ELISA assay format Task 3. ARS will field test ELISA kits Task 4. ARS and Cooperator will jointly validate ELISA assay, based on field test analysis.
