Research Project: Development and Evaluation of Nipah Virus Vaccine in a Baculovirus Expression System

Location: Biologics Development Module

Project Number: 3022-32000-026-009-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
Advance the development of veterinary vaccine countermeasures to prevent, control, and respond to Henipaviral incursions. Henipaviruses are zoonotic viruses that cause fatal disease in animals and humans. Effective vaccines are needed for the prevention and management of human and animal outbreaks. Testing of this vaccine in a challenge study is critical to development and improvement of effective vaccines. Baculoviruses have been proven to be a safe and efficient platform for animal vaccines.

Approach:
Task 1. Cooperator designs constructs and expresses Nipah virus immunizing proteins in baculovirus expression system. Task 2. Formulation of expressed Nipah proteins into vaccine candidates. Task 3. Development of Nipah virus challenge model. Task 4. Run proof of concept challenge study with vaccine candidates.
