Objective:
1. Estimate farm-level economic loss to crawfish farms from apple snails.
2. Estimate industry-level economic loss to crawfish farms from apple snails.
3. Quantify the total economic impact of apple snails to crawfish industry and regional economy.
Approach:
Farm-level production records and parameters will be obtained from cooperating crawfish producers, including those directly impacted by apple snails and those not. An enterprise budget will be developed and used to compare impacts of apple snails between infestation scenarios and 'control' scenarios. Differences in profit estimates will be used to evaluate direct farm-level losses due to apple snails.
