Research Project: Determining the Causes of Declining Test Weight of Soybean and Utilizing Breeding to Increase Test Weight (Auburn University)

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-070-056-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2023
End Date: Sep 30, 2024

Objective:
Implement coordinated multistate trials to determine the impact of genetics and geography on test weight using an array of extreme soybean types and extreme environments. Determine the relation of test weight to seed size, seed quality, protein and oil content, sucrose concentration, amino acid content and yield.

Approach:
Measure test weight, oil and protein, and seed size for ~300 PIs grown in 2023. Analyze the data over the past 3 years to determine relationship with test weight and compare with genotypic information. 3) The 2 large harvest trials (MG6 and MG7) grown in 2020, 2021 and 2022 will be analyzed in 2023 to determine the effect of delayed harvest for test weight and determine any correlations with seed size, oil, protein, amino acids and sugars.
