Research Project: Collect Timely Information on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from On-farm Storage Irrigation Reservoirs in the Lower Mississippi River Basin in Arkansas

Location: Delta Water Management Research

Project Number: 6024-13000-004-075-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jan 12, 2024
End Date: Mar 31, 2025

Objective:
Collect greenhouse gas emissions data from on-farm reservoirs in eastern Arkansas.

Approach:
The data collection will occur using three strategies-head space, floating chambers, and eddy covariance tower. As of 2015, there were 143 reservoirs in the Cache Critical Groundwater Area and 632 in the Grand Prairie Critical Groundwater Area (Yaeger et al., 2017). Information on these reservoirs include location, surface area, and construction year. Head space sampling will occur on 30 of these reservoirs. Reservoirs will be stratified by location-Cache or Grand Prairie, surface area-40 ac or less, 41-60 ac, 61+ acres, and construction era-before 2015 and after 2015. Given the varying levels of effort for each method, the number of sampling sites will decrease with each method.
