Location: Commodity Protection and Quality Research
Project Number: 2034-43000-043-069-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 1, 2023
End Date: Dec 31, 2025
Objective:
The objectives are 1) To continue detection survey of brown marmorated stink bug and explore natural enemies in Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley orchards; 2) To develop a provisional threshold/decision support tool for managing hemipterans almond orchards ; 3) Develop a relationship between hemipteran feeding damage with mold and aflatoxin contamination; and 4) To examine the efficacies of new reduced-risk insecticides and any available alternative control strategies against stink bugs.
Approach:
To survey brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), sticky panel traps along with BMSB-specific lures will be deployed in almond orchards. Trap data will be collected weekly. In addition, beating-tray, net sweeping, as well as visual detection approaches will be carried out weekly to monitor BMSB as well as other stink bug species.
