Research Project: Understanding the Impact of Bovine Anaplasmosis in Beef Cattle for Livestock Resiliency

Location: Animal Disease Research

Project Number: 2090-32000-043-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2024
End Date: Aug 31, 2026

Objective:
In collaboration between Kansas State University and the Animal Disease Research Unit, determine the impact of bovine anaplasmosis in beef cattle herds in Kansas with the long term goal of identifying genetic resilience to this disease.

Approach:
Monitor and sample cohorts of cattle through time to determine herd prevalence and incidence of bovine anaplasmosis. The sampling strategy is focused on identifying the risk factors associated with morbidity and reduced production due to the disease.
