Location: Delta Water Management Research
Project Number: 6024-13000-004-084-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Feb 21, 2024
End Date: Feb 20, 2029
Objective:
Contribute to the Inflation Reduction Act Measurement Monitoring Reporting and Verification ction Area 2-Tall Tower in a major rice production area.
Approach:
Air will be drawn continuously from a filtered intake at 100m height through Teflon tubing into a building at the base of each tower, alongside a group of tanks containing calibration gases for N2O, CH4, and COsis prepared by the (NOAA-ESRL). The sample lines and the calibration gas lines will be connected to a manifold system of solenoids and tubing designed and built at the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory, to allow continuous measurement of GHG concentrations with frequent (ca. hourly) calibration checks to ensure highest accuracy and minimal drift. Switching will be controlled by a computer that will also log the data, which will be transmitted by cell phone to network headquarters in St. Paul. Data from each tower (concentrations and flow rates) will be quality checked daily. When potential issues are detected, the network scientist closest to the affected site will be notified to initiate
troubleshooting.
